NEP 2020 - Highlights of the new Education Policy...

After a major wait of 34 long years, The Indian Government has finally come up with a new Education Policy. The NEP 2020 is gonna bring a lot of changes to the Indian Education System. There are some major highlights which you must know about the NEP 2020.

All higher education institutions to become multidisciplinary institutions


By the year 2040, All major Higher Education Institutions in the country shall transform into MULTIDISCIPLINARY INSTITUTIONS.

What are Multidisciplinary Institutions?
Multidisciplinary institutions aim towards diverse policy, to impart education to a more diverse campus. Students pursuing different fields of Education can find themselves comfortable in a Multidisciplinary Institutions. They offer High-quality education and research opportunities.

The Indian Institute of Technology s (IITs) will become multidisciplinary Institutions Opening their doors for Humanities Students.


Undergraduate Degree Programs To Have Multiple Exit Options

If a student pursuing any Undergraduate Program wants to exit from that program in the middle of the course then that won't waste any year of the Student. For every year of completion, a separate certificate will be given to the student. Image


More HEIs will Impart education through their local languages.

To promote Indian languages, Private HEIs will also be encouraged to impart lectures in the local dialects. 


10 + 2 structure to be said goodbye, 5+3+3+4 structure to be introduced.

The 10+2 concept will be restructured into a 5+3+3+4 concept. 

3 years of Pre-school + Class 1 + class 2- 5 years
(Foundational Years)

Classes 3 to 5- 3 years
(Prepatory Stage)

Classes 6 to 8- 3 years
(Secondary stage)

Classes 9 to 12
(4-year secondary stage (2 phases- phase 1-- 9 to 10 and phase 2 -- 11 to 12)

Board Exams To be Given less importance

The board examinations will now be given less importance and the pattern will be made easier. They will also be conducted in two phases - Objective and descriptive.



National Curricular & Pedagogical Framework for Early Childhood Care & Education (NCPFECCE) by NCERT

The NCPFECCE will be divided into two phases, Upto class 3 and classes 5 to 8. 

Reduction in Curriculum

The reduced curriculum will be more focused on Core essentials, critical thinking and practical knowledge.

To be honest, the new National Education Policy 2020 will bring some massive changes to our education system. These changes will lead to a better Education System . However I would suggest everyone to not worry about about its implementation right now, Because these will be implemented from 2022(the best case scenario). For the time being everything is gonna be as it is..
